Loyalty notifications and proximity reminders: differences and limitations

A well-timed message can be useful. First understand what triggers it and what controls whether it is displayed.

At a glance

Birthday and inactivity notifications use an occasion or customer activity as their trigger; Walaa supports both automated scenarios. Proximity reminders depend on location, wallet capabilities and device settings. Do not assume identical display or behaviour across devices.

Different reminders have different triggers

  • Birthday: an occasion based on available customer information, with a relevant message.
  • Inactivity: a follow-up after a period without a visit, under the program setup.
  • Proximity: a location-related experience whose availability and behaviour need checking on the intended devices.

What should you check before making a promise?

Support for Apple Wallet and Google Wallet does not mean every notification or location feature behaves identically. Review the intended scenario, wallet, operating system and required settings with Walaa before promoting a specific proximity reminder.

This guide explains the distinction between scenarios. It does not guarantee a particular proximity alert for every card or device.

Write a message you can fulfil

Keep the message brief: why you are contacting the customer, any reward and its essential condition. If an offer has a deadline or applies to specific products, explain that before the visit. Check availability before sending.

Good timing includes respecting preferences

Respect communication preferences and notification settings, and avoid repeated similar messages. If someone does not return, do not assume they ignored the offer. Sending does not prove delivery, reading or a resulting visit.

Assess results against a clear objective and suitable period. Consider staff and customer feedback alongside program data before adjusting message frequency.
