Loyalty analytics: what to measure for a clearer decision

A number is useful when you know what it measures and which decision it can inform. Start with the question.

At a glance

Review joining, earning, redemption and repeat visits alongside reward costs. Walaa provides advanced analytics. These questions and definitions help plan measurement; they are not a claim that every metric is a ready-made field in the platform.

Define the measure before comparing

  • Joined customer: define completed joining, and do not equate scanning a code with saving a card.
  • Returning customer: define a qualifying visit and time window, then apply that definition consistently.
  • Reward use: distinguish an earned reward from an actual redemption.

A rate needs a matching numerator and denominator

To measure return after joining, compare joiners who returned within a defined window with joiners who had that same follow-up opportunity. Someone who joined yesterday has not had the same opportunity as someone who joined at the start of the month.

For redemption, specify whether the denominator is earned rewards or eligible customers. Changing the definition changes the meaning even if the metric’s name stays the same.

Connect rewards to their cost

Frequent redemption shows a reward is being used, but does not establish profitability by itself. Review fulfilment cost, purchase margins and overlapping promotions using available business records.

Finish each review with a decision

If joining is low, review the invitation and explanation. If customers earn but rarely redeem, review reward clarity and reachability. If periods differ, consider seasons and campaigns before changing the rules.
